2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT California Special
By Lorenzo Bianchi October 21, 2025
Ford unveils the Mustang Mach-E GT California Special, a brand-new performance variant driven by design.
The vehicle's dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generates 700 lb-ft of torque and 480 horsepower.
Launch planned for late 2025 in the U.S., with limited-edition styling and trim details inspired by the 1960s original.
Revisiting a Classic Spirit in Electric Form
Ford’s California Special badge has always been about character — a visual statement of freedom, sunshine, and Mustang style. For 2025, that legacy finds a new home in the Mustang Mach-E GT California Special, an electric SUV built on the GT’s high-performance platform but dressed with coastal flair.
The release marks a quiet but significant evolution for the Mach-E lineup. It shows that heritage cues still matter, even when the powertrain hums instead of roars. Ford says the California Special is meant to capture “West Coast optimism” through color, materials, and detailing rather than nostalgia.
Design and Proportion
The design work is subtle but deliberate. A new Rave Blue exterior finish sets the tone — somewhere between navy and ocean surf — while 20-inch carbonized grey wheels carry small GT/CS center caps that nod to the car’s lineage. The front fascia features an illuminated pony emblem, standing out against a darker grille surround, and the hood gains a low-key coastal-inspired graphic.
In profile, the Mach-E’s coupe-like roofline remains, giving the California Special its athletic stance. The designers kept the familiar Mach-E balance — short overhangs, broad shoulders, and just enough surface tension to look purposeful.
Interior Detailing
Inside, Ford uses the same restrained approach. The cabin mixes Navy Pier AcUveX materials with blue-silver accent stitching and GT/CS embroidery on the seats and floor mats. There’s no excessive badging or color overload; it feels curated rather than flashy.
The large central touchscreen continues to anchor the cabin, running SYNC 4A software with wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air update capability. Safety and convenience systems include BlueCruise hands-free driving and adaptive lane-keeping, features that have now become central to the Mach-E’s tech offering.
Powertrain and Performance
Mechanically, the California Special remains a full-spec Mach-E GT underneath. Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 480 horsepower (358 kW) and 700 lb-ft of torque (≈950 Nm). That’s the same output as the regular GT Performance Edition, making this a styling-focused variant rather than a new tune.
Range is estimated at around 280 miles (451 km) under U.S. test conditions. Charging performance mirrors that of the standard GT — DC fast-charging capability through Ford’s growing BlueOval network.
The sports-tuned suspension and uprated brakes carry over unchanged. Ford engineers say these settings already strike the right balance between daily usability and sharp handling, so no calibration tweaks were necessary for the California Special.
Availability and Market Role
A niche in Ford's EV strategy is filled by the Mustang Mach-E GT California Special, a limited-edition vehicle that appeals to buyers who value both performance and design. It will start at about $55,890 USD, which is about $2,500 more than the standard Mach-E GT.
